About
I wish I had this site when learning mathematics and science.
Instead of starting with abstractions, it begins with everyday experience and builds up to theory and formula.
It’s the opposite of the standard textbook, and I created this blog to share it with the world.
This site.
What is it all A-B-O-U-T?
What is the…
Who?
I’m John Jordan, a Solutions Engineer with a background in pharmacy and the life sciences. In school, I memorized facts and crammed for tests; I got good grades, but I lacked genuine understanding. There had to be a better way. And slowly, through a winding career path, I found that better way.
What?
The “Reduct” method of tracing abstractions back to the real world, so that you can understand them, not just memorize them.
Where?
I’ve lived, learned and earned across Ireland, Canada, the UK, and the US. Everywhere I went, people shared the same struggles with schooling—so I knew it wasn’t just me.
When?
Developed during the 2010s, while moving from pharmacy to software, where I had to quickly grasp abstractions to succeed. I started building this site in 2020.
Why?
The Reduct method worked for me, as I changed career across technical fields. I’m sharing it to help people who struggle with abstract concepts. If you’re interested in using this approach in your own learning, I’m always looking for feedback and case studies—feel free to get in touch.
